Default Weekly Topic: July 26 What have you learn about yourself?

Beginning Recovery is about discovering the self. Even though recovery is about addiction, it is much more.
It's about finding out who I am and coming to a understanding of myself. The SELF is about my identity
and my character.

So therefore I would like to hear what some of you have learn about yourself sense being in RECOVERY.

I guess I will give some examples to my own experience to what I have learn about myself.
When I first came here I learn how selfish I was. Always wanting want I want when
I wanted it, and will created kaos and drama to get what I wanted. I did not care
about anyone else other then myself. If you had what I wanted I would find a way
to get or you giving it to me. Very much of a liar. Lied to my parents, love ones,
and to my children. Being in denial of my addiction. Saying how I didn't have a
problem, or I can stop anytime, or I don't need any help. Boy was I wrong.
When I learn these things about me I was hurt, had alot of guilt, and being very
shameful for all of my behaviors. Didn't want to be like that anymore.
Having to make changes to change those behaviors was not easy. And still today
I continue to make those changes so I wont get into those old behaviors again.

Great topic...One of the first things I learned was that I was not a bad person..I was a sick person wanting to get well...I learned I do not have to be perfect..I am a flawed human being striving towards spiritual progress...And before that I had to discover that I am spiritually needy. I learned the whole in my soul can be filled thru spiritual food and fellowship.

Thanks for a great topic
